Hospital Pharmacy Day 27th of March 2024
Today marks the inaugural World Hospital Pharmacy Day.
Pharmacists work in conjunction with other members of the Hospital Pharmacy Team to optimise the use of medicines for their patients.
Pharmacists complete a rigorous 5 year course focused on medicines and therapeutics, with many Hospital Pharmacists (over 75% in Ireland) having further specialist postgraduate qualifications.
Medicines are precious resources with the capacity to cause great benefit or harm. Hospital Pharmacists drive the safe and efficient use of medicines, providing therapeutic reviews, monitoring, expert advice, and governance in hospitals across the country.
In addition, Hospital Pharmacy teams work to ensure that the best value is achieved from the considerable investment made in medicines. There are over 1800 people working as part of hospital pharmacy teams, tasked with stewardship of the largest non-pay expense in the health system.
The Hospital Pharmacists Association of Ireland wishes to recognise the valuable contribution made by Hospital Pharmacy Teams to both direct patient care and to the health system overall.
Thank You!
