    Senior Pharmacist

    The Role

    The ideal candidate will be involved in overseeing the Charter Medical Private Hospital (CMPH) (Mullingar, county Westmeath,  https://www.cmph.ie/). Pharmacy Department and have shared responsibility for stock supply, rotation, disposal and wastage, as well as record keeping for all medications and intravenous fluids.

    To supervise the administration of medications and to ensure the safe, appropriate and cost-effective use of medicines.

    To participate in the multi-disciplinary team in the delivery and promotion of high quality, cost effective, patient focused, safe pharmaceutical care.

    The role can be full time or part time

    The Person:

    • Registered Pharmacist with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) or be entitled to be so registered
    • Possess the requisite knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the duties of a Pharmacist
    • Minimum 3 years post qualification experience in a hospital pharmacy (preferred) and/or community or setting
    • The person must have the requisite knowledge and ability for the proper discharge of the duties of this position.
    • The ideal Candidate should demonstrate effective communication skills and adopt a quality approach to all activities and work practices, including accuracy and attention to detail.

    Responsibilities:

    • Liaise with other fellow healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and economic drug treatment.
    • Ensure all details of dispensing conform to legal requirements and professional standards in the provision of medication to the departments in CMPH.
    • Maintain stock levels to fill the anticipated need whilst purchasing and managing stock in a cost-effective manner.
    • Responding to medication related queries from within the hospital and external sources.
    • Participation in the development, implementation and audit of guidelines, policies and procedures for the use of medication, in line with national and international strategies and guidelines.
    • Participate in the Hospital’s Accreditation process.
    • Promotion of safe drug usage.
    • Assist in education programmes for staff.
    • Adopt a risk management approach to medication management.
