A two-day, in-person course providing an introduction to basic clinical skills, aimed at pharmacists with <3years experience in hospital will be held in the Ashling Hotel, Dublin

Note:  You MUST be a HPAI member to attend.  Please do not email hpaieducation to join, but sign up using the join us button on the tab.

Audience: This event is initially only open to pharmacists who are HPAI members and are new to Clinical Pharmacy. It is not aimed towards Pharmacy APPEL students or Pharmacy Technicians.

PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN 3 YEARS WORKING IN A HOSPITAL (IRISH OR ABROAD), THIS COURSE IS TO HELP UP-SKILL THOSE NEW TO OUR PROFESSION - YOU WILL BE DE-REGISTERED IF YOU DO NOT MEET THE TARGET AUDIENCE REQUIREMENTS.

Content: The course will aim to cover the fundamental skills required to practice competently as a entry-level clinical pharmacist. Topics to be covered will include: clinical review of prescriptions, medicines reconciliation, documentation of clinical interventions, communication with the wider multidisciplinary team, and basic medicines information skills, with a particular focus on key issues for both general medical and surgical patients.

Provisional timetable (Updated 09.10.24, may be subject to change)

The material in this course is similar to our previous clinical skills days - if you have previously attended, please allow others the opportunity to attend this one.

Structure:  The course will be delivered using a blended learning approach, including a mixture of lecture material, shared learning cases, and group discussions.  You will be expected to engage in some interesting moderated discussions - please come prepared!

Fees:  A non-refundable nominal course fee of €5 will be charged for registration.  In addition to the course content, and at no additional cost to you, refreshments, lunch, a casual networking dinner and accommodation at the Aisling Hotel on the evening of Monday 4th November 2024, as well as breakfast on Tuesday 5th prior to that day's sessions, will be included with your registration.

Accommodation: Overnight accommodation at the Aisling Hotel will be provided for all attendees on the night of Monday 4th November. Please do not contact the hotel directly or you may be charged for the room - the HPAI will furnish them with names for room allocation.  We would encourage you to avail of this so that you do not miss out on any of the course events, but if you do not intend on staying overnight, please email hpaieducation@gmail.com to advise as early as possible so that the rooms can be released.

Transport: The hotel is accessible by train (5 min walk), LUAS and bus (both with nearby stops).  There is a multi-storey car park at the Hotel for those who wish to drive - the hotel will charge their standard parking rates for this. Note that transport/parking will not be subsidised by the HPAI, but may be available through your local hospital if they have an education support fund.

Future events:  We will run the session again in early 2025 for those who cannot attend this one. The next session will be in a location outside of Dublin to reduce the travel commitment required from attendees in other parts of the country.
